What Is Decorative Cutting?

Decorative cutting is a technique that generates saw-cut patterns on walkways, driveways, terraces, patios, and other concrete surfaces.

Technicians use specialised cutting tools to create patterned concrete etching, bringing dull, lifeless structures to life and significantly enhancing their aesthetic appeal at the fraction of the cost of a complete structural replacement.

Depending on the client’s preference or the contractor’s recommendation, the latter can implement decorative cutting months after creating the preliminary concrete cuts, which help control cracking.

Remember that decorative cutting can only proceed ten to twenty days after concrete pouring, guaranteeing clean, precise cuts. Otherwise, jagged edges result.

Decorative cuts, which are usually 9 to 13 mm wide, are applied over their construction counterparts to make them look similar.

Decorative Cutting Process

1. Create the concrete aggregate mix: Decorative concrete contractors combine cement, water, and aggregates, such as sand, gravel, or crushed stone to make concrete. This mixture is allowed to settle for several days, ensuring it’s ready for accurate cutting.

4. Sharpen the finish: Your contractor will use various methods, including diamond grinding and polishing, edge profiling and chamfering, and sanding and buffing, to ensure your concrete surface achieves maximum aesthetic appeal and smoothness.
